Githembe is a wet mill in Kiambu County, around 47 km north-west of Nairobi, operating under the Thiririka Farmers Co-operative Society at roughly 1,800 metres. Coffee trees grow beneath Grevillea and indigenous shade in rich red volcanic soils, and coffee underpins much of the local community's employment, education and infrastructure. After harvest, cherry is carefully prepared and slow sun-dried on tables — the patient work that preserves the bold, classic character of Kenya's celebrated varieties.
