Karundu Coffee Factory

Established in the 1960s, Karundu is a wet mill run by the Rugi Farmers Co-operative Society in Nyeri County, sitting at around 1,650 metres between the Aberdare range and Mount Kenya. It serves roughly 700 smallholders, most tending tiny plots of about 100 trees. Ripe cherry is pulped with water from the Sagana river, rested overnight, then washed, soaked and slow-dried on raised tables, the parchment turned often to protect the coffee's clarity and complexity.
