Ryder Specialty Coffee, roasted in Queenstown on New Zealand's first electric roaster. We're dedicated to sharing sustainable coffee that cares for people and the planet.

Story

Founded in 2023, the idea for Ryder was sparked when Wes McAllister, now Managing Director, was hiring for his other business, Crimson Badger Brewing. Sam Bright, a long-time coffee professional, had applied for the role, but the pandemic shifted plans. The two stayed in touch, and over a coffee one day, Sam shared her long-time dream of starting a coffee business. Ideas sparked, and Ryder was born. The final piece of the puzzle was Pete Forde, a long-time friend of Wes. Having lived and worked together in Queenstown, Wes knew Pete would be the right person to join the team. Today, Sam leads roasting and producer relationships, Pete drives business development and sales, and together with Wes as MD, the passionate trio are make up the core Ryder Specialty Coffee team.

Nyota AB Single Origin Kenya

Nyota AB Single Origin Kenya Nyota, meaning "Star" in Swahili is a regional coffee from the Central Highlands of Kenya, and is a classic representation of the flavours and cup profile of coffees from this region. This coffee is grown by various smallholders who cultivate some of Kenya's most popular varieties, such as Ruiru, Batian and SL28. These farmers work within cooperatives, and when the coffee cherries are picked, they are then sent to a washing station, or "factory" to be processed. This coffee follows the traditional Kenyan washed method: pulping, controlled fermentation, and thorough washing. Final classification is conducted at the dry mills, where the beans are screen-sized to guarantee the AB quality standard and roasting consistency.

Tablón de Gómez Single Origin Colombia

Tablón de Gómez Single Origin Colombia Tablón de Gómez is a municipality in Colombia's Nariño department, where mountainous landscapes, volcanic soils and cool temperatures create ideal conditions for exceptional coffee. This lot is produced by small-scale farmers, typically working on just 1–2 hectares of land at altitudes between 1,500 and 2,000 metres above sea level. Around 90% of farms use shade-grown production, with coffee growing beneath fruit trees, plantain and native species. The cooler environment slows the ripening of the coffee cherries, helping to develop sweeter and more complex flavours. The coffee is carefully harvested at peak ripeness, then floated and hand-sorted before depulping and undergoing a 24-hour underwater fermentation. It is washed and slowly dried on raised beds for around 20–25 days. Cofinet works closely with producers and local associations in the region, supporting traceability and long-term relationships.
